Master's Degree of Sciences in Nursing with specialty in Family Nurse Practitioner

FNP Program

This program is available at: Main Campus, Orlando Campus, South Florida Campus.

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and training. Their goal is to help people be as healthy as possible. Family Nurse Practitioners  advocate for health promotion and disease prevention. These  professionals  teach  people  ways to stay healthy and treat them for acute illness (e.g. colds) and chronic diseases (e.g.  diabetes). Family Nurse Practitioners may perform health histories, physical assessment and examinations, order and interpret  diagnostic/laboratory  studies, diagnose and treat common illness and  minor injuries, make referrals to specialists, counsel and teach health and nutrition, prescribe/manage medication therapy and provide continued/follow–up and coordinate care for patients at any stage of development  throughout the individuals life span.

Students are taught through a holistic perspective with a multidisciplinary and collaborative focus throughout the life span of the patient. Students are exposed to educational activities that will prepare them to increase health promotion, preventive health, and provide primary care services. Students will contribute to decrease morbidity and mortality in medically underserved, low-income populations, both globally and in Puerto Rico.
